IOU Devil’s Lake State Park Wisconsin: June 1-4. Limited to 18 people. Some people will be leaving Des Moines on June 2. Please see http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/parks/specific/devilslake/ for more information. The deadline for sign up is the April meeting. $25 deposit.
IOU Loess Hills and Desoto National Wildlife Refuge: June 9-11. Limited to 12 people. Email tawhipple@mchsi.com. We will be leaving in the afternoon/evening on June 9 and returning anytime on June 11. We will camp both nights at Wilson Island State Recreation Area. We will visit DeSoto NWR early in the morning of June 10 and picnic for lunch. Saturday afternoon and/or Sunday we will drive the Loess Hills Scenic Byway and explore the Loess Hills State Forest, Preparation Canyon State Park, and Sylvan Runkel State Preserve. Camping at Wilson Island State Recreation Area, Missouri Valley, IA. Cost estimate $40-$50 (estimate for splitting gas, campsite, park admission, food). Other activities include Nature-hiking, birdwatching, touring 19th century steamboat wreck. Website References: Desoto National Wildlife Refuge, Wilson Island State Park, Loess Hills Informaiton.
